Surviving Daylight Savings with Kids (and a Smile…Hopefully)

Let’s talk about the twice-yearly chaos of daylight savings. You know, that time of year when we’re gifted a *whole extra hour*…and our kids act like they’ve never seen a clock in their lives. Gone are the routines we already struggle to uphold—now it’s bright as noon at bedtime and pitch black by dinner.

When you’ve got little ones, daylight savings feels more like a *daylight robbery* on our precious sleep. The kids are up at the crack of dawn, demanding breakfast as if the sun itself invited them to a 5 a.m. party. And by the end of the day, they’re ready for bed when you’re still making dinner. So what’s a parent to do?

Here are a few tips to survive this “seasonal joy”:

1. **Gradual Bedtime Shift**: Try adjusting bedtime by 10–15 minutes over a few days, leading up to the change if you can, but even after you set the clocks back. It’s not foolproof, but every little bit helps!

2. **Soak Up Natural Light**: First thing in the morning, open those curtains and let in all the natural light you can. Sunlight helps reset everyone’s internal clocks (and wakes up those groggy eyes).

3. **Keep Bedtime Routines Consistent**: Stick to the usual bedtime routine, even if it’s a struggle. Familiarity is key, so keep that story time, bath, or lullaby ritual as predictable as ever.

4. **Cut Yourself Some Slack**: And hey, give yourself grace. The whole family is adjusting, so if everyone’s a little out of sync this week, you’re not alone!

Daylight savings might throw us all for a loop, but we’re in it together! Here’s to brighter mornings, earlier bedtimes (hopefully), and maybe—just maybe—an extra cup of coffee.
